The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

"Then you must teach my daughter this same lesson.  How to lose your innocence but not your hope.  How to laugh forever."

I just finished Amy Tan's new novel The Valley of Amazement and realized that this hadn't made my book list yet.  I don't remember exactly when I read this.  It was sometime during sixth grade.  I had really bad vertigo for like three weeks straight and I had to stay home for the majority of it.  I remember not being able to read or watch tv or do much of anything.  This was before audio books were popular (for me anyways), so my mom read this to me.

I don't remember too much about it, other than I loved it!  It was a wonderful story incorporating four sets of Chinese mother-daughters.  In 1949, four women begin to meet as the "Joy Luck Club" where they share their stories, secrets, and hopes over the next forty years.
